Reasons why Poshmark is not the best place to sell wool/hair sweaters

********Update: The alpaca blend sweater with colorful stripes was sold for $30 to an acquaintance that accidentally happened to be in my house. She was happy with the softness and the colors of the sweater.***********

I usually do not complain about Poshmark. Two years ago, the application became a third alternative for cleaning my closet of items that I hardly wear. I often give away my clothes to my husband’s cousin in Europe and my former babysitter. When I heard about Poshmark two years ago, I went for it. It was a great way to sell designer accessories and clothing with brand names in pristine condition.

In a matter of months, I became a “top seller’ and a “suggested user.” Poshmark became the best place to sell Jeffrey Campbell shoes and boots that I hardly get to wear. Of course, some users will try to buy your stuff at low prices. It is annoying, but patience is the best advice I can give to everyone getting started on Poshmark. If a buyer is interested in an item, they would be willing to pay the price you are asking or close to it (and I have gotten very excellent reviews in several of my sales in which I counteroffered the price buyers wanted to pay for my items initially).

However, I have decided to write this post because I have had a very unpleasant experience that had led me to remove all my wool sweaters from Poshmark.

Before going to Scotland, I sold two sweaters at once in a bundle to have the buyer had a case open against me detailing that my sweaters were pilling and that the items were not pristine. Of course, I could not deal with this issue on time because internet access is restricted when one leaves the American continent.

I wish I could reveal the buyer’s name to everyone since she is a dishonest person. She claims that my sweaters have “pilling at the bottom,” and that “they are covered in some kinds of hair.” The comment about the hair is interesting because I have not had any pets for many years (almost ten years). Furthermore, the hair she is complaining about was detailed in both listings (rabbit hair in the off white/grey sweater and alpaca in the colorful sweater). Here are the screenshots of the items. I want to emphasize that in Poshmark once an item is sold, the listing cannot be modified. In other words, these screenshots demonstrate that the fabric description of these items was detailed at the time when the buyer purchased these items, which means that the buyer knew what she was buying. Here are the screenshots.

The hair description is included in the listing. However, the email I got from Poshmark notifying me that the items have been delivered to my house is insulting since the item descriptions were provided.

Before discussing the supposed pilling of the sweater, I like to point out that I mentioned that I was going to Scotland in one of my listings (yes – I was planning to take that particular sweater to Scotland). The buyer was aware of it. She used this knowledge to her advantage to sneakily open the case against me and have her money back during a timeframe in which I did not have any internet access.

Finally, the buyer mentions that the sweaters are pilling at the bottom. As a result, I have decided to upload videos showing that the sweaters are pristine and that the buyer is complaining about the texture of alpaca wool and rabbit hair. I also own one of the sweaters in another color, too, a very recent purchase to demonstrate the composition of alpaca sweater. I am also comparing both sweaters with one that has pilling. Furthermore, I would like to add what a friend of mine mentioned to me about this whole issue (translated from Spanish):

It is all excuses to return an item . . . It is typical for every type of wool to release fluff, and that is the standard for wool. There are brushes for synthetic fabrics. However, wool is not synthetic …

Here is the video for the off white/grey sweater

The following video is a comparison between the colorful stripe sweater bought in January of this year (2019), which the dishonest buyer purchased and returned, and the same sweater in another color bought even more recently April 2019. I am making this comparison to demonstrate that the sweater is pristine and with no pilling.

This last video is comparing the sweater with pilling with the texture of the colorful sweater returned to me.

Note: In regards to the colorful sweater, Madewell has the yellow with brown and mauve still available (that is my favorite one). The blue with orange and grey is sold out in most sizes. Based on the reviews, the sweaters are great. Here is the link:

Since Poshmark is not the ideal place to sell wool sweaters, I have considered other options like Facebook groups (there is a JCrew and Madewell Resell Group), and local consignment stores specialized in selling specific brand names. I have tried the last option recently, and two designer brand jeans (Rag & Bone, and Hudson) that were not selling at Poshmark got sold at the store. The two listings have been deleted from Poshmark at this stage since they are no longer available. Of course, one will make less money, but people who go shopping there have the chance to check the items and condition, which is a plus. Furthermore, it is another way to eliminate the pile of clothes that I no longer use. Edit: I just deleted all my wool sweater listings in Poshmark.
