The Birds of Summer – Jewelry trend for 2013

The weather is still weird here in Massachusetts. We have extremely hot days but out of a sudden the weather is a little bit cooler. I am not complaining about it. In fact it is much nicer to have a little bit of a cool breeze when taking my youngest one out, especially to see geese and ducks on a pond nearby. They love to approach people for food, and I am very tempted to give them some bread crumbs next time.

My little obsession with birds started many years ago. It probably started with me having a toucan, a conure, some chickens and a pair of geese. My family used to live in a city but that did not stop my mother in getting animals for us. With time, I came to love birds as much as I love cats (I am a cat person). When I was in my twenties, I started to like the birds of prey. I found myself attracted to eagles and hawks. Up to this date, I am not sure what is exactly that I like about them. I guess it might be the way they fly, their speed and their size. As a result it has been very cool to find abstract eagle print tees very “in” this summer.

In terms of jewelry, I own a very cute statement ring with a big thunderbird. It is one of my favorite rings and I love to wear it all the times. The design belongs to Low Luv by Erin Wasson. My two little ones love the ring too – they like to touch it, hoping to feel some feathers probably.

Lately, there have been statement pieces with eagles, something associated with their images on fabrics. My favorite ones are the necklaces, and most of them are very affordable ($20 or less). They can be purchased from Forever 21 and Pixie Market. The blue one below is expensive though.

Other birds and bird-associated designs are also very popular. That includes designs with only wings which are associated not only with birds but mythological creatures, such as winged horses. As a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, I am expecting more stuff like dragons and griffins in the future.

My obsession to birds could also be the fact that birds, the avian reptiles, are descendants of the extinct dinosaurs. Overall, I do believe some birds are pretty smart, especially parrots, and beautiful (male peacocks).
