Burgundy, Oxblood, Aubergine and Loafers

A great colour for fall is burgundy. This colour trend came back last year, and it is still popular. However burgundy is not the right colour for everybody and that includes me. I prefer to wear similar shades to burgundy, such as aubergine and oxblood. There is a little bit of a difference among these colours. Burgundy seems to be a mix of brown and red. Aubergine is a similar shade but it has more of a purple to it (something like plum or eggplant). Oxblood is very similar to burgundy but it has more of a red to it. These colours can be matched with other fall colours such as camel, light warm brown, and some shades of pink. Aubergine and plum colours match some shades of green and yellow. I have recently matched a plum skirt with a teal blouse (the blouse has some plum leaf print on it).

Here are a few shopping selections, which are expensive this time. However, I have found beautiful burgundy and plum outfits for a lot less at lulus.com and nastygal.com. Keep in mind that sizes run smaller on these websites, and keep an eye on the items because they get sold very fast.

Here are my selections of bags and shoes. I have added two rain boots. I believe Madewell.com is still having for sale a nice pair of plum Hunter boots. These accessories are alternatives to clothing items, especially if the colours mentioned above do not suit you. They might be flattering in an accessory. I always have a tendency to spend more money in shoes because I like comfort (and I love cowhide). I am a little bit more flexible with bags though and I have been able to find cute bags of decent quality at affordable prices.

The “boy” trend for this fall is to wear a pair of comfortable loafers. I am not a big fan of them. I prefer oxfords instead. However, I do own a pair of perforated white oxfords that I wear during summertime.
