Stud Earrings and Game of Thrones S04E09 – The Watchers on the Wall

Stud earrings have been in trend since last year. I am big fan of statements earrings which I prefer over statement necklaces. Stud earrings are usually worn with statement necklaces. However, stud earrings can be combine with ear cuffs to make more of an impact in the ear area. Here are my choices for stud earrings.

Personally I like the flamingos, the sunnies, and the evil eyes.

Here are the highlights for the last episode of Game of Thrones, The Watchers on the Wall.

The battle: The battle had good special effects which is a plus. However, the viewer could see the end results of budget constraints, and here are few of the complaints at Westeros.org regarding this episode:

  • The giant scythe was great but such an awesome weapon was used to kill four wildlings when it would have been more efficiently used against more people.
  • Ghost only killed and ate one wildling when he could have done much more.
The battle of Blackwater (season 2 episode 9) was more “structured”. The battle at Castle Black was all over the place, and it ended abruptly without a proper climax. I felt that something was missing – and somebody at the Westeros.org forums described it properly – the battle did not have an epic feel to it. Here is the link of the user giving this opinion. However, this opinion is not spoiler-free.

Opinion about the Battle at Castle Black

There are certain things that could have been done to make the battle scenes more structured. Certain “filler” scenes such as the sex-talk between Sam and Jon, the dialogue between Maester Aemon and Sam, and the relationship between Gilly and Sam, could have been transferred to early episodes (that includes also the scene in which Gilly bypasses the Wildling camp).

The fight scenes were not realistic. Jon did not suffer any facial injury even though he was smashed against an anvil. I need to add that I do not like how Jon keeps losing his sword in the TV show. Before the battle there were around one hundred defenders at Castle Black. However, it seems that the Wildlings killed more than one hundred “crows.”

Deaths of Grenn and Pyp: These characters are not dead in the books. In the fifth book, A Dance with Dragons, Jon sends them away to rebuild and man abandoned castles of the Night’s Watch. As a result, they stopped interacting with Jon. Grenn’s death had a great impact on Jon (even more than Ygritte’s unfortunately – blame it on the script). The scene in which Grenn and company were about to face the giant was great – especially when they started to recite the Night’s Watch oath. Basically Jon sent his friend to die, and that must have been painful. Pyp’s death also had an impact on Sam, both of them being of a nice, gentle nature. I had the feeling afterwards that Sam was the one who was going to kill Ygritte.

Ygritte’s death: For some non-readers Ygritte’s death was painful to watch. For other non-readers her death did not matter much – they just wanted her to die. For many book-readers her death was not portrayed in a emotionally significant manner. For some reason it did not have much of an impact on Jon. In the books Ygritte is sexually experienced but she is innocent in other aspects. She and Tormund are very likeable characters. The TV show has opted to portray them as not being very likeable as in the books. In fact Tormund never climbed the Wall in the books – he stayed behind with Mance. Furthermore the show has not put much emphasis on why the Wildlings want to go South: the threat of the White Walkers. In the books Jon found Ygritte on the ground dying with an arrow in her chest. It was a random arrow that killed her. Jon does not know who killed her, and he is aware that the arrow was not his. However, he blames himself for her death. In the TV show Olly kills Ygritte and Jon witnesses that. This is some sort of poetic justice since Ygritte killed Olly’s parents.

Here are my favourite lines:

Pyp: “Sam, I think we’re all going to die.”
Sam:We will if you keep missing.”

Jon: “I’m not a poet.” I would like somebody to give Jon a harp (spoiler).
